CrossFit has been a huge part of my life ever since I stepped into my friend's garage on August 2, 2014. After nearly ten years of being overweight and out of shape, I decided to take control of my health by eating clean (following the Paleo diet) and starting CrossFit. My friend, Matt, is a certified L1 coach, so I knew I would be in good hands. He said, "Just show up and I'll take care of the rest." I was a little worried. I knew it would be intense. I knew I wasn't the athlete I was in high school and I knew I had a LOT of work ahead of me. I swore I would never try CrossFit, and here I was showing up to do work I had no clue about. The first few weeks were really hard. I was sore and some days I left feeling completely defeated. But every week, I continued to show up and put in the work. And it's never stopped paying off. I reach new goals all the time and even though I never feel like I've mastered any ONE lift or gymnastic movement, I never stop learning and growing. At 31 years old, I'm thankful that I'm stronger, fitter, and faster than I've ever been and I'm thankful I can teach my children how eat healthy and stay active too.

Next to performing the workouts, I have a huge passion for photographing them! There is such venerability shown when you leave it all out there on the gym floor. You're breathing hard, dripping sweat, and pushing your lungs until they're ready to explode. I love zooming in on chalk-filled hands on the bar or catching someone taking their last deep breath before picking up the dumbbell again. Last week, the owner of CrossFit Funky asked me to come out to a few classes to grab some new material for their website. I knew it was going to be fun, especially when the coaches and members are all so welcoming. But the best part of going out there was walking in and hearing him say, "Do whatever you want." That level of trust between a client and photographer is the absolute BEST feeling in the world. I strive for that same trust with every single client I work with.

If you're looking to try CrossFit, but you're not sure where to start, check them out! You won't regret it. Their coaches are top notch and their members are some of the nicest people around.
